I have 2 vCentres, 1 in each physical site, in linked mode and running NSX (only DFW component) on both of them. In each site, the ESX hosts in the clusters where I installed NSX are behind a firewall so I found this doc to get the required ports:
VMware NSX 6.2 for vSphere Documentation Center
I now have the ports open for the NSX Managers/vCentre server/ESX hosts on each site, i.e. rules allow NSX Manager/vCentre/ESX hosts to communicate within site 1 only.
I have similar firewall rules for site 2.
My question is, do I need firewall rules to allow the NSX Manager in site 1 to communicate with the vCentre and ESX hosts in site 2, and vice versa?
Thanks for any help.
Hi All,
We have a requirement where in we need to forward few vRops alerts to SNMP Server but not all.
There are only selective alerts that we want should be forwarded to SNMP and not all.
Is there a way to achieve this ?
Thanks
Hello,
My VCSA 6.0 box is telling me it cannot boot and I need to run FSCK on the volume. Normally this is no problem but when I boot into maintenance mode (entering the root password) it takes me to the VMWARE shell with the file system in read only . So I type
shell
and it tells me its disabled
I type shell.set --enabled True
and it tells me unknown command.
Please advise.

OK - what's the opinions/thoughts/advice on using UEM to copy to the safe place the contents of the sun folder in <UserProfile>\LocalLow ?
On a normal PC this will store details of which sites have been "approved" as well as certificates.
I have tried to do this, but the results are unpredictable - or at least inconstant. On a clean desktop, and a first run experience, the user is asked to approve the Java application I run. The next time seems fine. After switching into a brand new VPC, sometimes you get past without the nag. Other times not so. I'm thinking there is a time element built in here - maybe a security thing with the certificate?
Anyway, any suggestions as to best practice for using UEM to keep in a safe place the Java settings would e much appreciated.

I can do everything in vROPs except report on the VM Virtual Hardware version. I cannot find this metric/property. Is this available in vROPs?

Is it possible to have a pool of linked-clone RDS Servers that "automatically" spin up new instances as demand increases?
This is Horizon 7.
For example:
5 users connect and start using the apps on RDS Host 01.
User 6 connects.
There is some logic that says "Oh the stress on RDS Host 01 is too great. let's spin up another RDS Host..."
Is this possible?
Hi guys
I'm currently working with VMWare Workstation v.12.1.0 build-3272444 and since i can remember i have always had this issue.
When editing a acript on the Host i copy/paste the file from the host to the Virtual machine, but when i copy the file with the new change it keeps the old version of the file in the cache/clipboard
In order to workaround this problem i c/p another random file, before then one intentionally.
Is this a known bug?
Regards
I'm using the vSphere client 4.1.0 build 258902 on Windows 7, and there is a VERY annoying bug where if you minimized an open console, it becomes impossible to un-minimize the window. I have to close the console window from the taskbar and re-open it using the client.
Does anyone know if this is a known issue or if there is a work around for it? I googled it and searched the community here but didn't find anything about it.
I am looking though end users UEM log files doing some troubleshooting on an unrelated issue and am seeing a lot of these errors (I've changed the group names below for publishing purposes)
2016-05-09 09:58:29.576 [WARN ] Conditions: Error 1332 looking up group 'GROUPNAME0' -- treating as membership of group = false
2016-05-09 09:58:36.123 [WARN ] Conditions: Error 1332 looking up group 'DOMAIN\GROUPNAME2' -- treating as membership of group = false
2016-05-09 09:58:58.450 [WARN ] Conditions: Error 1332 looking up group 'DOMAIN\GROUPNAME3' -- treating as membership of group = false
2016-05-09 09:59:01.639 [WARN ] Conditions: Error 1332 looking up group 'DOMAIN\GROUPNAME4' -- treating as membership of group = false
Now I've checked these groups against AD and indeed they don't exist so I'm not particularly surprised by the errors. The trouble is though, where is UEM picking these up from so I can strip them out of the config? There must be some typos I need to remove. We have hundreds of printers and close to 100 shortcuts and mapped drives assigned via UEM and group conditions. I've used the Notepad++ 'find in files' feature on the UEM config share but it doesn't find anything for these groups. I know the find in files works as I use for searching out UEM config anyway as there doesn't seem to be a search facility within UEM.
I'm guessing these sort of things can't be helping the logon times either.
hi expert
I found the issue on the vCenter server service , which often have start n stop , I have checked the side of ODBC and DNS all good -good , but it is often the case , I 've been looking for a solution in the KB , but still has not been solved .. is there any of you ever come across a similar thing ?

hi
i am not sure if anyone else has faced this issue but this is affecting many of our scripts.
vCenter Appliance 6. Build 3339084 and vCenter Appliance 6. Build 3634794
Environment: Win-Server 2012 /Framework 4.5 / WMF3.0
Powercli version 6.3 / R1 / R1 - patch 1 [Checked on all these]
$esx=Get-View -ViewType Hostsystem -Filter @{"Name"="<HostName>"}
$esx.Network Is empty
\
so i checked at extension data andfound that is also empty.
$Esx=Get-VMHost <Hostname>
$Esx.Extensiondata.Network is empty
I do have few environment where we still have powercli 5.8 and there we get list of network from that esx host,
Is this something which gor missed as excessive focus on get-vmhost optimization?
Regards
Sanshis.
Hi
Im trying to migrate a VM using Converter 5.1 but I get the "Permission to perform this operation was denied" error message when i select the source machine (which is powered off) or when i click on the "view source details..."
I see the following error in the Convertor Standalone client log file "[05496 error 'wizardController'] Must be administrator to access physical computer"
The domain account I am using is a member of the Local Users group on the Convertor server and has Converter permissions on the source vCenter where the VM is.
Any ideas as to why I get this error?

Message was edited by: GuyTC : corrected errors in original question. It turns out my domain account was NOT a member of the Local Administrators group on the Converter server. Adding my domain account to the Local Admins group on the Converter server fixed the error.

Hi,
Is there any reason why I cannot use VPN client software to connect to a Public facing private network?
- The VM can access the Internet fine.
- It connects and gets a private IP address
- It then fails "Client did not acknowledge banner request"
Support are stating the ports being blocked by a firewall or a non-IPSec aware NAT router and pointing the issue back to vSphere.
I stated that I am not running vShield Edge, NSX or any of the sort. I am just pointing my vswitches to the VLANs on the physical switches.
I am stating that the problem is the VPN software or the network Layer 3 routers.
I am just reaching out here to ensure I am not missing something on how this VM is routed on the intricacies of vSphere 5.1 networking that I maybe missing.
The only thing that comes close to this topic is people using VMWare Workstation and their problem was solved using bridge networking.

Hello,
I made a mistake during the initial installation of SRM on two servers. I was able to successfully uninstall and reinstall it on one server by uninstalling SRM, then uninstalling the embedded database. On the second server I made the mistake of uninstalling the embedded database PRIOR to uninstalling the SRM service.
Now modifying/repairing/uninstalling the SRM 6.1 service all fail.
Uninstall:
(I have tried it with Delete Site Recovery Manager data ticked on and off)
Repair:
Modify:
I am able to make it a bit further when I modify, I enter my admin credentials, virtual center name, however I get stuck here since the backend database has already been removed:
So basically, I can see no way forward and no way back. I could just deploy a new VM and install SRM on it from scratch, however I am concerned that if I try to link it to my vCenter it won't work because there is already an SRM server linked to it.
How do I remove this safely and gracefully? Barring a graceful uninstall, how can I force it?
Thanks.
