Hello All,
We are getting ready to migrate to a new SAN storage appliance very soon. I have been considering several approaches to how I might migrate the VM data to the new LUNs in the least disruptive fashion. We are currently running vSphere 4.1 Standard edition. We plan to upgrade to 5.1 sometime in August. What I need to know is, can I safely remove my license keys placing my 4.1 environment in evaluation mode and hence making all features such as storage vMotion available, [The environment has been licensed and running for 2 years], then once all my data is migrated to the new LUNs re-apply my Standard edition keys? My concern is that doing this may somehow "Break" vSphere. Some of the virtual disk files are quite large and would result in ver long downtime windows if I cannot take advantage of live migration.
Thanks,
Paul Sprague
