Greetings,
I'm posting this in the hope it saves someone the hours of frustration I've just experienced.
I was trying to get an IBM xSeries 336 running with VMWare ESx 3.5 with bitnami-lampstack-5.3.15-0-ubuntu-i386-12.04. Installing ESx was a no brainer, but getting the bitnami virtual machine loaded and converted onto the server was a trying exercise indeed. The converter kept failing at about 30 mins / 95% with a "The operation experienced a network error" reported.
The logs from the client show the following..

There were a variety of suggestions from a few years back and it was an obscure one that saved the day (obvious in hindsight)
The two issues:
1/ I added an entry in my home router DNS table to ensure that the xSeries box could resolve itself (in my case, reverse lookup on localhost.home). On the console screen, make sure that the network test passes correctly.
2/ I had to install VMWare Converter V4.3. I was trying for the longest time with V5.0 / V5.1 and both of these failed (V5 - was the 95% failure, V5.1 wouldn't even start - it wouldn't allow me to select the datastore to continue)
Happy VMing!
