I have a question about application upgrades in the app layer. The App Layer Capture Guidelines 4.0 states in a "Note about application upgrades" that "you can replace the existing app layer with a new layer. To do this capture the upgraded application in an app layer together with any applications or updates required at that time) by...starting with a clean reference machine and capturing the new application. Once you have the new applayer, use Update App Layers to replace the old app layer with the new app layer". My question is this - I have a VM with 10 applications on it for one of our departments which has been captured as an app layer, we'll call it App Layer 1. If one of those apps needs to be updated, I'm taking the above instructions to imply that I would update just that one app on a clean reference VM, then replace App Layer 1 with the updated app layer, which we'll call App Layer 2. But what happens to the other 9 applications that were in App Layer 1? Do I actually create a separate updated App Layer for that one app? That doesn't seem efficient either. I was thinking that I would go into the snapshotted VM that has the 10 apps and upgrade it there, then capture that as the replacement App Layer? Sorry if I am making this more complicated than it actually is!
