Hi there,
I am relatively new to this so forgive my ignorance if I don't get everything right the first time here.
I have vSphere 5.1.0 client Build 1064113 and I have ESXI 5.1.0 Build 1065491
the issue that I am having is that while in console after a certain duration of time I get an error and then I am no longer able to connect to the VM in any way. It's not just that VM either, it's everything after that, anywhere I go in vSphere I get this error message.
To give you reference it looks like this:
" Call "HostNetworkSystem.UpdatePortGroup" for object "networkSystem-####" on vCenter Server "<vCenter FQDN>" failed. "
The "UpdatePortGroup" changes depending on what I am trying to access. Things like shutting down, suspend, reset, etc.
I have tried to do as much research as possible, but I am unable to find any solid answers for v5.1. I see some things that were done back on 4.X, but I found something that said it was resolved in 4.1 update 2 yet I am still having this issue in a newer build.
I have tried to narrow it down to see what is triggering it, as sometimes it just loses connection without me knowing if I step away. I did come across something that mentioned you get this error when you reset the network.
As I am setting up Ubuntu Server 12.04 I have reconfigured the network a couple times so I can get it right, and I think this does actually trigger it.
My only solution / work around right now is to go to the server and shut it down manually which is a pain.
Some key points I think would want to be mentioned:
I believe I have the latest firmware for my Raid card.
DL380 G5 , HP400 raid card, 4GB of RAM ( soon to be upgraded ) , 3 1TB hard drives strung in a Raid 5.
VMs created: Ubuntu server (loaded) Windows Server 2008 R2 (not loaded yet)
If you guys need anything else, or pictures, etc. Let me know and I will get it to you.
I am just not sure where to go from here. If anyone has any insight, I would be extremely grateful!
Thank you!
*Edit: It seems that the VM is disconnecting on it's own without even a trigger of accessing network settings. Not sure if that helps.
