NSX-T 3.0 Design Suggestion

Hello Experts, Here is the point of discussion.

 

Customer wants to segregate the NS and EW traffic in NSX-T env and had enough 10 gig pnics available. We had proposed following.

 

2 for - VDS (mgmnt,vmotion)

2 for - NVDS1 - for workload VM's

2 for - NVDS2 - for DMZ workload ....

 

But in this design, Edge VM will sit on Host NVDS and will consume 2 nics for overlay as well as N-S.

 

If we design it as per the customer requirement, its like going back to old 2.4 edge VM design where Edge had multiple nvds and was possible to assign individual pnics for e-w and n-s using named teaming policy. This design is still possible in 2.5 & 3.0, however pnics assigned to N-S traffic on the host where there is no edge VM, will be ideal until an edge vm moves to that host..? so what is the point in keeping pnics unused..?

App install failed when started by AW Catalog

Hello, everyone,

 

recently I can't install apps (internal, vpp, public or webclips) from the AW Catalog anymore. But this only affects my OG and all devices, not those of the other admins.

 

If you click on Install in the catalog, the command arrives in the console (visible in the troubleshooting of the respective device).

There the command stops and is not processed or with different long delays. The status of the commands is "Queued" and sometimes "pending".

 

 

What helps is the "Query" button in the console.

What does not help is:

- the button "Sync device" in the Hub App.

- restart of device services server

 

We still have a test server, with the exact same configuration and everything works as it should.

 

Do you still have an idea where I can have a look or do you have a solution?

 

AirWatch Server Version: 19.9.0.34

Hub Version: 20.05.1

Tested with iPad OS: 13.4, 13.5, 13.6 and 13.6.1

Moving to pfSense Destroyed homelab VCSA?

This is a vSphere 6.7 update 3 environment. VCSA is 6.7.0.44100 build 16275304. Hosts are 6.7.0 Update 3 build 16316930.

 

I recently swapped out my Edgerouter X for a pfSense appliance, and while everything seemed to come back online fine after the move my VCSA is having a bad time of it.

The host name and IP address of the VCSA has not changed.

Health status is all good in the VAMI, and SSO shows as running with the vsphere.local domain.

The VCSA is joined to my active directory domain run on two win2019 VMs on the same network.

DNS is set up on the pfSense box to point to both Windows domain controllers which have static A records created for the VCSA and other infrastructure pieces like the hosts and VMs.

I also have forwarders configured on each domain controller to point to a set of pi-holes for external resolution to Cloudflare.

Before making the router switch I shut everything down, VMs, hosts, switches, Synology, modem. I set up the new pfSense box, set up the reservations to give the same address to everything and brought them back online in reverse.

Now when logging into the VCSA both hosts shows as not responding and all VMs show as disconnected. I try to connect the hosts but it fails before even trying to authenticate saying, "The host may not be available on the network, a network configuration problem may exist, or the management services on this host may not be responding." However, I can connect directly to the hosts.

It seems clear that this is DNS related, but I can't imagine what is different as I feel like I set it up on pfSense the same as it was on the ERX.

VCSA backup also fails with the message, "Backup PNID 'vcsa.my.domain' is not resolved on the network. Configure the network DNS service accordingly."

 

Any ideas what I did here, and how I can get things back on track?

Помогите, пожалуйста.

То ли кнопки какие нажал не те, то ли после "игр" с переменной VMkernel.boot.Hyperthreadingmitigation теперь консоль гипервизора выглядит так

вместо привычной

хотя при нажатии F2 появляется окно запроса пароля

далее все в порядке, а при выходе (ESC) опять темный экран со строкой про VMkernel.boot.Hyperthreadingmitigation

 

Подскажите, пожалуйста, может какие комбинации клавиш есть документированные ( и не только)

Workstation Player 15.5.6 disappears at power on, Linux Mint 20

I just installed VMWare Workstation 15 Player, 15.5.6 build-16341506 on Linux Mint 20. During creation of the virtual machine VMWare would not recognize my OS ISO file, so I selected the install OS later option. Later when I tried to power on the virtual machine to install my OS I briefly see a "waiting for connection" message then VMWare immediately closes. It never powers on.

 

I've never used VMWare before, so I don't know where I'm going wrong. Is it my machine not configured correctly (most likely) or is it a problem with VMWare?

VMmark3 deployment of inital VMs

Just kicked off java -jar tools/VMmark3Service.jar -c VMmark3.properties

 

It creates all the first tile vms, assigns them an IP then some of the IPs will ping and some will not so the deployment fails quite quickly 5-10 minutes after the jar task has started. Remediation is tried and a reboot but still no ability to be pinged

 

I'm using a /24 subnet which has nothing else on it, one port group on a vds switch. Everything seems configured ok on the VMmark.properties file.

Is it possible to transfer everything from one virtual hard disk that is smaller to a virtual hard disk that is bigger in VMWare Workstation using the same virtual machine?

Hi there,

 

I was wondering whether it is possible to transfer everything from one virtual hard disk that is smaller to a virtual hard disk that is bigger in VMWare Workstation using the same virtual machine? If so, please could someone advise me on how to do this. Also can disk management and transfer utilities be used within the virtual machines to do this?

Strange boot up screen when installing Windows 95 and 98

Hi there,

 

I was wondering whether anybody could help me, basically everytime I mount both the floppy and .ISO images for Windows 95 and Windows 98 using VMWare Workstation, it comes up with a screen as shown in the attachment, can anyone tell me what is going on? I'm really confused as to what is going on.

App Volumes 4.1 2006 Template does not have AppCapture.exe

I have updated to 4.1 2006 and deployed the new template. When I try to capture an application the process does not start.... I see the following in the logs:

Move Alarm Definitions from VC to ESX

Hi,

I have alarm definitions defined on Vsphere and I would like to desactivate alarms for specific hosts but the option is grey out on ESX's.

I would like to move these alarm definitions from Vshpere to ESX's.

Is it possible to export alarms from Vcenter and import it into ESX ?

Vmware ESXI within Hyper-v (server 2012) networking issue

I am trying to get esxi running within hyper-v and it won't recognize the virtual switch even though I got it setup properly and it works with any other VMs on this system.

Outlook search index with FSLogix

Hello everyone,

 

the past two weeks me and one of my colleagues were testing FSLogix Office 365 containers.

The initial setup was pretty easy and straight forward which was very promising but there is one thing we can't seem to get right: the outlook search index.

Everytime the user has a new session the index has to be rebuild in order for the user to be able to search e.g. contacts in Outlook again.

 

We tried both Single-user Search and Multi-user Search without any luck.

 

Since there are some posts about the successful use of FSLogix (Office containers) I'm hoping for someone to give us a hint.

VMware® Workstation 15 Pro doesn't take user keyboard input if I go back-and-forth between host OS (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS) and guest OS (Kali Linux). What to do?!

I am trying to learn ethical hacking during this lockdown. The video series often need me to play with Kali Linux since its one of the most common distribution for pen-testing. But sadly VMware has not been a very helpful/reliable experience. Because 3 out of 5 times, I either have to wait for VMware to recognize that I am on it or sometimes it gets even worse, no matter what I do, I can't type at all. Yes, I can move my mouse freely, copy-paste each word/letters but that's it. No user input. Pressing letters on guest OS will click some option as if I am using the mouse or it will write tetter like this  ^[s if I press s, ^[d if I press d and so on. This is very disturbing. I dunno what to do. If there something I need to do in order to make this work, please let me know.

 

Note:

1. This doesn't happen if I use VM only. But if I go back-and-forth between host OS application and guest OS application, we will see the problem.

2. VM which I have installed is the latest stable and Kali Linux is also the latest version.

iPhones (supervised) force bluetooth on?

Can I force Bluetooth to be turned on on supervised (DEP) iphones (iOS 13.x.x)?

I know I can allow (or not) the user to modify setting. "Allow Bluetooth Settings Modification" under restrictions in profiles.

But I must be sure that it is TURNED ON!

We're happy to announce that Dynamic Environment Manager 2006 (10.0) has been released, with the following new features:

  • New version number scheme
    Aligning with the switch in version numbering across the Horizon suite, DEM has adopted the YYMM version number (and, yes, I know it's August... )
    Mainly for docs and marketing collateral; old-school 10.0 versioning lives on as well.
  • Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition

Wait for vm to fully start up until windows is applying updates

With the below script I am trying to perform shutdown vm and apply windows updates and power on it and wait till windows updates are fully applied and then poweroff the machine.

Steps as below:

1.Do guest shutdown for the vm which is $vm variable and wait till powerstate becomes poweredOff.

2. Start back the vm and wait till Guest.GuestOperationsReady becomes True

3. Then finally poweroff the vm using Stop-VMGuest.

 

Here in step 2  when I start the vm it is applying the windows updates. However the Guest.GuestOperationsReady state shows True so its not waiting for the guest to completely startup in a whileloop. It just moved to step 3 and the windows updates are not applying as expected. Is there any way to wait till we see ctrl+alt+del screen in windows and move to step 3.

USB Device Cannot Start (Code 10) on certain hosts but works fine on others

I've tried this on 3 different hosts and the device and driver works fine on 1 and fails to start on 2.

 

Host: Windows 10 19041 on all 3

Client: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

VMWare Player 15.5.6 in all cases

Running the same copy the client across all 3

Latest VMWare tools

 

The one host that works is a Lenovo x220 with a core i5 2520 processor.  The other two are newer PCs a Lenovo T460 i5-core6300 and a NUC desktop i5 7250.

 

Might also be worth noting that the x220 host is Windows 10 upgraded from Win7 and the other two were fresh installs of Win10

 

I mention the processor type because when starting up the VM for the first time on a new host, that is the only thing that the client detects as new, otherwise there is nothing that happens when starting the VM for the first time.

 

Using USB 2.0 in the VM, but have tried 1.1 and 3.1 with the same behavior.

 

I have tried older versions of Player with no difference.  Tried disabling Hypervisor & Hyper-V, no difference.  Tried running the device in a WinXP VM also, with the same outcome.

 

For what it's worth, this USB device is an automotive tool to communicate with a particular make of car.  I have other similar ones for different manufacturers running in the same base VM that work just fine on all of these same hosts.

 

I have a feeling there is some driver security / signing thing that the newer PCs are expecting that the old one is not checking for but I don't have clear evidence of that.  The drivers are signed, SHA1 as they are pretty old.  The signature expired in 2010 and the client is running with a fade date of 2013 (again same on all 3 hosts).

 

Really scratching my head on this one.  Any ideas appreciated.
